David’s are the most likely tourists to leave 5-star reviews in Mexico
The names of the most generous 5-star reviewers in Mexico have been revealed, with David taking the top spot.
After analyzing around 15,000 TripAdvisor reviews for the most popular restaurants, hotels and attractions across Mexico, Remitly has revealed the top 10 names that are most likely to leave 5-star reviews on the travel comparison website.
According to Remitly’s data, David’s are typically the most generous with their 5-star reviews when visiting places in Mexico, leading them to be dubbed the country’s ‘anti-Karen’.
Since gaining traction on social media in 2018, the name ‘Karen’ has become synonymous with privileged, middle-aged women who enjoy involving themselves in other people’s business, complaining, and asking to speak to the manager - every tourism and hospitality worker's nightmare!
But David appears to be the antithesis of the ‘Karen’ meme, as they have a tendency to leave glowing reviews where they praise the services they’ve received and experiences they’ve had.
Michael and John also often leave positive reviews, coming in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
A spokesperson for Remitly, who specialize in helping people send money to Mexico, said: “Despite common preconceptions, our research has debunked the Karen stereotype, pointing to the fact that Karens haven’t been living up to their name after all. People named Karen are leaving fewer poor reviews than we anticipated, as Karen placed 13th in our rankings for those leaving positive reviews in Mexico.”
“To take a deeper dive, we also examined the reviews of locals, to see which non-tourists were giving the most five-star ratings. In this, we were able to discover Amit proved to be the highest reviewer on Tripadvisor in Mexico.”

Methodology:
Remitly analyzed data from TripAdvisor to create a list of the ‘most likely names to leave a five-star review’ in Mexico.
This data was compiled based on the ‘top 10’ pages for restaurants, hotels and attractions in Mexico on TripAdvisor. Remitly then crawled over 10,000 names across nearly 15,000 reviews to identify the reviewers. 'The 10 names that appeared most often were named the most generous reviewers and therefore the most likely to leave a five-star review
These data points were also analyzed and segmented to create a ‘most likely’ list for tourists, local tourists, and men/women. Local names were selected based on the most common names in the country, while the tourist list was based on all the reviews with non-local names.
