Kim Kardashians' Marilyn Monroe dress surges online searches by over 5000%

Kim Kardashians' Marilyn Monroe dress surges online searches by over 5000%

With experts criticizing whether Kim Kardashian's take on a Marilyn Monroe dress was appropriate to wear to this year's Met Gala - there has been a 5000%* increase in worldwide online searches over the past month for ‘Kim Kardashian, Marilyn Monroe dress’.

In defense of this George Nesnas, director of Cazaar.co.uk has provided a comment regarding why vintage clothing will never get old:

"It's understandable that Kim Kardashian has received backlash for her decision to wear Marilyn Monroe's dress to the Met Gala this year, as specific gowns have priceless history. There is nothing quite like reminiscing monumental moments and considering this year's Met Gala theme was 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion', Kim's outfit choice certainly ticked that box. With vintage clothes being the new luxury with their trendiness, sentimentality, and sometimes more affordability than modern style clothing, there is no doubt we will see more vintage looks from Kim in the years to come".

Alongside this, the experts at Cazaar.co.uk (https://cazaar.co.uk/) looked into legendary Met Gala looks, that have gone down in fashion history. By generating a seed list of the most popular Met Gala celebrities, then using Pinterest and Google search volumes in order to reveal which celebrity looks are the most sought after.

Cazaar.co.uk can reveal that the celebrity with the most average monthly global searches is Kim Kardashian - 132,000 searches and 810 pins on Pinterest for Met Gala looks. With Kim’s 2021 all black Balenciaga outfit being one of the most Googled, fans were amazed by her look this year, with a Marilyn Monroe dress, paired with her newly blonde hairdo. Although Kim only has 810 pins on Pinterest for her Met gala looks, she has 595% more searches than her half sister Kendall Jenner in third place (19,000 global searches)

In second place is model Gigi Hadid with 22,000 global monthly searches and 318 pins on Pinterest- 16% more than fellow Victoria Secret Model Kendall Jenner in third. This year Gigi matched the red carpet in a red corset and latex Versace jumpsuit, showing off her slim figure.

In third place is Kendall Jenner with 19,000 monthly searches for her Met Gala looks. Kendall’s most searched for Met Gala look is her 2019 outfit, in which she appeared in a Versace orange feathered dress, along with sister Kylie (16,000 searches) in a lilac Versace dress. Despite only a narrow difference, Kendall has 19% more searches than sister Kylie and only 63 more pins.

In joint fifth place are actresses Zendaya and Blake Lively, with 15,000 monthly Google searches. Although they have the same number of searches, Zendaya has 957 more pins on Pinterest than Blake. Although Zendaya failed to make an appearance this year, Blakes colour changing dress, paying tribute to the Statue of Liberty has been one of the most surprising outfits of the night.

Darren Butler, director of Cazaar.co.uk has provided a comment regarding why vintage clothing will never get old:

Methodology:

  1. Cazaar.co.uk were keen to uncover which celebrity Met Gala looks are the most sought after.
  2. To do this, a seed list of popular Met Gala looks was created by scraping articles from reputable sources Vogue.com, Townandcountrymag.com, Stylist.co.uk, and Teenvogue.com.
  3. Average monthly search volume data was collected from Ahrefs.com to see how many people are searching for celebrity Met Gala looks.
  4. Further data was collected through the use of Pinterest, to manually cross-reference each trend from the seed list and utilising an in-house web scraping tool to examine the total number of boards and pins each trend obtained.
  5. Trends with irregular or limited results were omitted from the results.
  6. The results were then filtered to deduce the most inspirational Met Gala celebrity of all time.
  7. All data was collected between 21/04/22 and 26/04/22 and is subject to change.
