Skechers names Doja Cat its first artist-in-residence
Skechers has named Grammy award-winning global superstar Doja Cat as the brand’s first artist-in-residence.
Doja Cat first made the announcement during her performance at the TIME100 gala in New York on Wednesday night, where she wore a custom dress crafted from deconstructed Skechers Uno fashion sneakers.
“Skechers has given me a new canvas to create and I can’t wait to show everyone what we are building,” she said.
Most recently, in October 2022, Doja’s single Vegas from the Elvis Original Motion Picture Soundtrack hit #1 at Pop Radio. The single lead her to have the most #1’s at Pop Radio this decade and the most top 10s among women on the Billboard Hot 100 this decade.
Earlier this year, Doja also became the first woman to have four #1 hits from one album and landed #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart for the first time.
The Los Angeles-based company, who announced earlier this week quarterly sales of $2 billion, a year-over-year increase of 10%, has collaborated with a slew of celebrities since the beginning of the year.
In March, it launched a new campaign with Broadway and television star Ashley Park for the brand’s Skechers Uno fashion sneakers. Prior to that, it launched a new footwear collection with Martha Stewart, as well as a footwear and apparel collaboration with fashion industry icon, Diane von Furstenberg.
Meanwhile, to kick off the year, it tapped Snoop Dogg for a campaign highlighting Skechers Slip-ins, which aired at the Super Bowl.
