Gisele Fetterman Wore a $22 Purse for the Senate Swearing-In Ceremony

New year, old clothes. Gisele Fetterman attended the swearing-in ceremony of her husband, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, on Tuesday afternoon. Gisele was the picture of modernity, wearing a metallic dress that featured a tonal geometric print and semi-sheer paneling. After the momentous occasion, Gisele revealed on Instagram that part of her outfit was purchased from the ever-popular resale retailer Buffalo Exchange. The find? A $22 navy blue purse that featured floral cross-stitching and the initials “GB.”

The oath, administered by Vice President Kamala Harris, came after a contentious and hard-fought senate campaign between the former lieutenant governor and Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz. Not to mention, Senator Fetterman was recovering from a stroke at the same time.

Of course, this is not the first time Gisele has tastefully curated and adapted secondhand finds for Capitol Hill. Back in November, Fetterman wore a blue $12 thrifted dress, leather jacket, and black leggings paired with stiletto boots for her first day in D.C. with her newly elected husband. Speaking on Vogue’s podcast The Run Through, the former second lady of Pennsylvania—who recently dropped her self-christened moniker “SLOP” on social media—revealed she is personally committed to building and wearing a closet of at least 90 percent thrifted or recycled clothes.

It’ll be interesting to watch how Gisele Fetterman employs her growing platform to shine a light on secondhand or upcycled garments. Her proud disclosures of her favorite vintage finds (and, more crucially, their cost) does a lot to illustrate that affordable and easily accessible vintage clothes can belong in the most rarefied spaces.
