Daniel Blumberg has released “All Is Summer,” a newly reimagined Shaker hymn from The Testament of Ann Lee (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), his forthcoming album of original songs and score for Mona Fastvold’s visionary new film The Testament of Ann Lee.
Performed by Amanda Seyfried and the film’s cast, “All Is Summer” marks the latest preview from the soundtrack ahead of its release on January 16, 2026 via Milan Records / Sony Music Masterworks (North & South America) and Mute (globally).
Blumberg’s arrangement weaves the Shaker dance “Circular March” into the hymn’s structure, building from hushed devotion to ecstatic release. Led by Seyfried’s impassioned vocal, the song unfolds through swelling strings, ensemble choral voices, and flickers of bells and chimes — capturing the inseparable relationship between music, movement, and worship at the heart of the film. The track arrives alongside a newly unveiled trailer, underscoring the film’s immersive, ritualistic power.
“All Is Summer” is one of ten traditional Shaker hymns radically reshaped by Blumberg for the film, following earlier releases “Hunger & Thirst” and “Clothed by the Sun,” the latter an original song written by Blumberg and performed as a duet with Seyfried over the film’s end credits.
Reuniting with Fastvold after his debut score for The World to Come (2020), Blumberg was embedded in The Testament of Ann Lee from its earliest stages. Beginning in early 2024, he developed musical sketches alongside the director, workshopped material with cast and choreographer Celia Rowlson-Hall, and remained on set throughout production, musically directing and recording performers live on location.
The soundtrack’s sonic language is rooted in the physical and ecstatic worship practices of the Shakers, with music and choreography evolving together. Central to this approach is voice: Blumberg assembled nearly 100 singers, including legendary vocal improvisers Maggie Nicols, Phil Minton, Shelley Hirsch, and Freya Edmondes, alongside untrained voices, to create dense, wordless choral textures inspired by speaking in tongues.
Working closely with percussionist Steve Noble, Blumberg built a distinctive palette of tuned percussion — hand bells, church bells, metal bell plates, and celeste — supported by a string ensemble featuring Billy Steiger, Angharad Davies, Tom Wheatley, Okkyung Lee, and Joel Grip, with additional harp by Rhodri Davies. Recorded across multiple locations rather than a traditional studio, the album embraces a raw, tactile immediacy. Blumberg composed over 100 minutes of music for the film.
In addition to the traditional hymns, Blumberg contributed three original songs, including “Clothed by the Sun,” resulting in a bold song-and-score hybrid that drives the film’s two-hour narrative while reflecting the radical spirit of Ann Lee and the Shaker movement.
Also announced is a live performance of music from The Testament of Ann Lee, featuring Daniel Blumberg and special guests, on February 8, 2026 at Barbican Centre’s Milton Court in London. Tickets are available now.
Searchlight Pictures’ The Testament of Ann Lee is currently playing in select US theatres, with a UK release on February 20, 2026.
