CrossFit for your face: New beauty gadget acts 'like a workout' for facial muscles

  • Swedish skincare brand Foreo have developed the beauty product
  • Called 'BEAR' the device promises to be a 'workout for the face' using currents
  • It exercises the face and neck, aiming to be a toning device and facial in one
  • The $395 gadget can be used after applying serum and has an anti-shock system

A beauty gadget that claims to be like a 'workout for the face' is set to launch in Australia, promising higher cheekbones and a lifted jawline with minimal effort.

Swedish skincare brand Foreo developed the BEAR tool as a way of 'exercising' the face in the bathroom at night, with microcurrent and T-sonic pulsations - pulses that reach across the skin - working to tone the outer layer of the epidermis.

The electric pulses are designed to trigger facial muscles - without ever shocking them - to encourage firmness and counteract sag.

BEAR is integrated with the Foreo app and guides the user through a 'facial fitness routine' with instructions on how to move the device to get the most benefit.

It recommends applying a serum to the face before using BEAR because dry skin won't conduct the microcurrent as well.

'Micro currents mirror your own electrical currents on a cellular level helping to refine and contour your complexion,' the website reads.

'Cells are broken down and grow back stronger just as your body muscles when you workout in the gym.

'Signs of ageing are improved on a cosmetic level but your dermis layer is also stimulated into action for longer-term benefits.'

The $395 product will become available in Australia on April 3 at Sephora, Adore Beauty and David Jones.

Foreo is well-known for its beauty tech, selling one of their LUNA devices - a facial massager and cleaner - every three seconds around the world.

The Luna devices last for up to one year on a single charge and give off 8,000 sonic pulses per minute to create a clean-skin feeling.
